"not for canada - australian in disguise" (for-canada)

My favourite band is the Barenaked Ladies, my favourite sitcom is Corner Gas, my favourite city is Vancouver, and one of my favourite foods is poutine, my favourite sport (non-motorsport, of course) is hockey, and my favourite car is probably the Acadian Canso.
But I don’t say aboot, nobody in Canada actually says aboot, there are outher ou words that are pronounced with the oo sound by people with thicker accents, but usually not about. And the stereotypes are slightly wrong about “eh”, Canadians say it, a lot, but not after every word, it’s used mostly as an inquisitive. Ex: Nice weather out today, eh?

I say it sarcastically usually, but I have, and do.
Bob and Doug Mackenzie ruined me.

My experiences at hockey camp taught me that Canadians don’t say “aboot” as it’s spelled like that, but they tighten up the u and sort of elongate it in a way that Americans don’t. We say it more like “abowt,” Canadians more “abaewt.” Sort of. It’s hard to put into writing accurately.

Exactly, we pronounce it different, but in a different way than the stereotype says.

What about The Hip?

Like them, but not as much as I do BnL. I pretty much grew up listening to BnL on repeat, which isn’t something I can say about the Hip.
That being said, the Hip are the most important band for Canadian alt-rock ever. They were really Canada’s REM.

While I was in Virgina, I got to see the Hip at a block party. $3 concert in the park. There were maybe 50 people there, so I literally sat on the stage. I like BnL as well. Others in my family were big April Wine/Kim Mitchell fans, too. I grew up on the border in northern NY, looking at Canada across the St. Lawrence. I’m even a veteran curler. Our town forms kind of a triangle with Ottawa and Montreal. I even still have my Cup tickets from ‘93.

You might just be the most Canadian American outside of Minnesota, Alaska, North Dakota, and Vermont that has ever walked the earth.

There was a guy around here who bought an Acadian brand new back in the 60's, and DD’d is up until a few years ago. I saw it’s final resting place awhile back, but it was starting to get in pretty rough shape and I, sadly, don’t remember where it is anymore...

Jackass. :)
And as another Canadian, there are some who say about. I think they congregate in St Catherine’s. Only place I’ve heard it.

I'm American and love Coner Gas. No judgement. Also, between jalopnik and oppo I've learned some really fun things about Canadian market cars this week. Fun fact, after some research I leaned my TR8 is a late run Candian model, hence my lack of awesome plaid interior.

There are Virginians who say “aboot.”
